Reading to our birds

Our budgies have had three baby birds recently.  The eldest is just beginning to venture out of it's little box house.  Today Autumn and Alba spent 40 minutes....yes 40 minutes taking turns and continuously reading to them!!  They chose books from their book box and read calmly and quietly to the birds.  I'm sure those birds loved listening to you both read to them.  What lucky birds!

Achieving my Writing Goal

Alba has been working really hard during our Literacy sessions.  She is getting very good at writing more than one sentence to explain her stories.  She is ready to move onto a new goal.

Alba has chosen her new goal to be using interesting words to make her writing sparkle.  This means that Alba will need to describe her writing more e.g. skinny dog, colourful ball etc

Keep being a great author, Alba

Fun Riding Bikes

Reading and writing about things you enjoy makes literacy fun.  We have been reading lots of books about bikes and racing.   We wrote a letter home asking if we could bring our bike or scooter to school.  We had lots of fun and we shared our bikes and scooters with the children who couldn't bring their bikes that day.

We were all a bit tired after all that racing around!

Alba helped Lawrie ride her bike.  "Look ahead Lawrie I'll push

 you!"
Charley supporting Lily on Kairangi's scooter.

Kairangi demonstrated to the other children how to use the brake on the scooter to help you to stop.

Sharing Equally

In maths we have been learning about sharing equally.  Today we used pretend pizza bases to help us learn how to share equally into halves and in quarters.  We made pizza toppings with  play dough.  We then shared these toppings equally in halves and in quarters.  We discovered that if you can skip count it sometimes helps to work out how many toppings in each section of the pizza quicker.
